Ruthie Foster at the Weis Center: A Night I Truly Needed
Last night, I had the chance to see Ruthie Foster perform at the Weis Center at Bucknell University, and it was truly one of the most meaningful nights I’ve had in a long time. After taking a peaceful evening walk with a friend, the timing of the 7:30 p.m. show felt just right — like the perfect way to start the weekend.
As soon as Ruthie began singing, I could feel how much heart she put into every word. Two lines in particular stayed with me: “Time will reveal a brand new you” and “I’ve been lost and I’ve been found and I’m proud of it.” Hearing her sing about being lost and found—and being proud of that journey—felt especially personal to me. College life can be messy and confusing, and in that moment, her words felt like exactly what I needed to hear.
What made the experience even more special was Ruthie’s wonderful sense of humor. She had such an easy, natural way of making everyone laugh between songs, and it made the whole concert feel warm and welcoming. I loved her humor just as much as I loved her music. She made the Weis Center feel smaller somehow, like we were all sharing a really personal night with her.
At first, I found myself on my phone, trying to capture the moment with a few pictures. But very quickly, I realized I didn’t want to experience it through a screen. I put my phone away and just listened. Ruthie’s voice, her energy, and her presence filled the space in a way that made you want to be completely present.
I had been looking forward to seeing Ruthie Foster for a long time, and her performance was absolutely worth the wait. I’m so grateful I went. It was the right night, at the right time, with exactly the right words I needed to hear.
