Weis Center Sessions #4: K.A. Hays (Poetry)

Welcome to our fourth installment of Weis Center Sessions!

Each Friday, we will release a video that features a member of the Bucknell University community. Today, we feature poet K.A. Hays and two of her original poems, “Anthropocene Sonnet” and “Lines written on Jasper Beach, Machiasport, Maine.”

K.A. Hays is a poet, a Creative Writing professor, and the Director of the Bucknell Seminar for Undergraduate Poets. She is the author of three books of poetry, the most recent of which is Windthrow (Carnegie Mellon 2017). The poems she reads here are from an in-progress manuscript. “Anthropocene Sonnet” was published in the Winter 2019 issue of The Gettysburg Review and “Lines written on Jasper Beach, Machiasport, Maine” appears in Los Angeles Review. Both poems reflect on how their speaker’s actions contribute to the sixth mass extinction in the history of the world.

Recorded at and produced by the Weis Center for the Performing Arts at Bucknell University.

ENJOY!
