The Weis Center will welcome Las Áñez, a world music duo from Colombia on Thursday, October 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Weis Center Atrium.
This engagement of Las Añez is made possible in part through the Mid Atlantic Tours program of Mid Atlantic Arts with support from the National Endowment for the Arts in collaboration with Ibermúsicas.
Las Áñez is a twin-sister duo combining Colombian traditional and folk with pop and electronic music. The music of the Áñez twins is designed to be performed live with a loop pedal and small instruments.
The duo’s concerts include songs from their four award-winning albums, which have captivated audiences in 10 countries across the Americas and Europe with their unique blend of folklore and the avant-garde.
The sisters, Juanita and Valentina Áñez Rothmann, sing on all their Latin-American songs in a unique way, half of which are composed and arranged by each of them, and they are the producers of their first three albums. Juanita Áñez Rothmann plays the cuatro and percussion, and Valentina Áñez Rothmann is a pianist and percussionist.
On stage, Las Áñez fill every corner of their resonant medium and make listeners enter a hypnotic resounding ritual. The natural and versatile sound of this vocal duet from Colombia is accompanied by themselves with minimal percussion series, a small keyboard and a loop station.
