Lightwire Theater: A Very Electric Christmas will come to the Weis Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, December 2 at 2 p.m. The Family Discovery performance is suggested for all ages and has a run time of 60 minutes, without an intermission. Sweet Honey in the Rock will present a holiday a cappella performance, “Celebrating the Holydays” on Friday, December 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Weis Center for the Performing Arts. The future of hip hop music will be discussed by several emerging artists on Monday, November 13 at 7 p.m. in the Weis Center Atrium Lobby. Hip Hop Happening is free and tickets are not required. The event will include a panel discussion with four emerging hip hop artists who are carving out careers for themselves: Amos Lachman, J Pope and two Bucknell University students Mansa K and Amarachi Ekekwe. The string orchestra, with vocalist Luciana Souza (pictured), perform the new work with text from poet Carolyn Forché The Boston-based Grammy-nominated string orchestra A Far Cry will present a new evening-length work called The Blue Hour on Thursday, November 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Weis Center for the Performing Arts. The Blue Hour features Grammy-winning singer Luciana Souza in a song-cycle written by five leading female composers: Rachel Grimes, Angélica Negrón, Shara Nova, Caroline Shaw, and Sarah Kirkland Snider. Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Tim O’Brien and his Band will bring Americana/bluegrass music to the stage on Saturday, October 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the Weis Center for the Performing Arts. Tim O’Brien grew up singing in church and in school and after seeing Doc Watson on TV became a lifelong devotee of old time and bluegrass music. After a busy and lively first month of performances in our uphill concert venue, female folk duo Anna & Elizabeth took the Campus Theatre stage in downtown Lewisburg at a nearly sold-out show. The duo channels their Appalachian roots and love for traditional music by delivering a modern, Americana twist that captivated the entire venue. These modern arrangements of old, maritime tunes with an interesting visual component create a unique arrangement that tests the limits of this often forgotten yet fundamental genre.
