Ephrat Asherie and the Feeling of Growing Up

Watching Ephrat Asherie and her company at the Weis Center for the Performing Arts felt unexpectedly familiar. From the opening sequence, where the performers entered with loose confidence and settled into a shared groove, the stage carried an energy that felt both contemporary and nostalgic. Michael Mwenso and the Shakes Bring Jazz/Funk/Soul Fusion to the Weis Center in Free Concert, Danville Hip-Hop Dancers Featured

Michael Mwenso and the Shakes will perform a unique blend of jazz, funk and soul on Tuesday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Weis Center for the Performing Arts. First Hip Hop Happening Breaks Ground

In breaking with traditional concert norms, the Weis Center hosted its first ever Hip Hop Happening. This panel-performance brought to attention many of the political issues most commonly discussed in hip hop music in the past to lead the performers to speculate on the genre’s future in social action. Future of Hip Hop Music to Be Discussed at Weis Center in Free Panel Discussion, Live Performances

The future of hip hop music will be discussed by several emerging artists on Monday, November 13 at 7 p.m. in the Weis Center Atrium Lobby. Hip Hop Happening is free and tickets are not required. The event will include a panel discussion with four emerging hip hop artists who are carving out careers for themselves: Amos Lachman, J Pope and two Bucknell University students Mansa K and Amarachi Ekekwe.  The discussion will be followed by short, 20 minute sets by each of the participating artists.
