The Weis Center will welcome soul-jazz guitarist Raul Midón on Wednesday, October 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Weis Center Atrium.

Raul Midón is a Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter and guitarist celebrated for his singular fusion of soul, jazz, Latin and acoustic music.
As The New York Times noted, his music suggests “a three-way fusion of Stevie Wonder, Bobby McFerrin, and José Feliciano.”
Blind since birth, Midón has been hailed by The New York Times as a “one-man band” who transforms his guitar into an orchestra and his voice into a chorus. His breakthrough album, State of Mind, produced by Arif Mardin, introduced his borderless sound to the world and marks its 20th anniversary as a modern soul-jazz classic.
Over his career, Midón has collaborated with artists as diverse as Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Snoop Dogg and Roberta Flack and has performed at leading venues and festivals worldwide.
His latest release, Lost & Found (2024), continues his journey as an adventurous storyteller and genre-blurring musician. Praised by Quincy Jones for his joy-filled music and called an “eclectic adventurist” by People, Midón remains one of the most compelling voices in contemporary music.
Working largely from his home studio, Midón continues to expand his craft as both musician and engineer, navigating the challenges of recording as a blind artist with determination and innovation.
Throughout his career, Midón has collaborated with iconic artists including Bill Withers, Herbie Hancock, Terence Blanchard, and Spike Lee. He has received back-to-back Grammy nominations for Bad Ass and Blind and If You Really Want, both in the Best Jazz Vocal Album category.
Midón has a longstanding creative partnership with acclaimed conductor/arranger Vince Mendoza, including If You Really Want with the Metropole Orkest, a tribute to Joni Mitchell with the National Symphony Orchestra at The Kennedy Center, and an upcoming recording with the WDR Big Band, scheduled for release in 2026-2027.
He has also been honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Miami, delivered the commencement address at his alma mater Santa Fe Preparatory School, and was named Disability Rights Ambassador of the Year in 2021.
