Popular Book, Mr. Popper’s Penguins, Comes to Life as a Musical on Weis Center Stage

  The popular children’s book, Mr. Popper’s Penguins, will come to life as a musical on the Weis Center stage on Thursday, February 22 at 7 p.m. at the Weis Center. The Family Discovery performance is ideal for ages 4 and above and is 60 minutes, without an intermission. There will be a pre-performance talk with the artists from 1-2 p.m. in the Weis Center Atrium Lobby the same day as the performance. Bachata Music from the Dominican Republic Coming to Downtown Lewisburg

World musician Joan Soriano will present bachata music from the Dominican Republic on Wednesday, February 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the Campus Theatre, 413 Market Street, downtown Lewisburg. Patrons are encouraged to arrive early, as free bachata dance lessons will be taught by Jacqueline Cetera at the Campus Theatre from 6:45-7:15 p.m. Cetera is the Director of Residential Education at Bucknell University. Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra to Present Works by Sibelius, Elgar and Brahms

The Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra will perform renowned classical works by Sibelius, Elgar and Brahms on Friday, February 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Weis Center. The Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra (HSO) was founded in 1912 and is one of Sweden’s oldest orchestras. Free Children’s Performance featuring Piano Music, Storytelling, Acting, Visual Arts and Poetry at Weis Center

Pianist Qing Jiang will present a free classical program called “Children’s Corner” on Saturday, January 27 at 2 p.m. in the Weis Center Atrium Lobby. The performance is free and tickets are not required. Feathers of Fire: A Persian Epic, a shadow-puppet play will be presented on Saturday, January 20 at 2 p.m. at the Weis Center for the Performing Arts. Sweet Honey in the Rock: A Night of Holyday Joy

First Hip Hop Happening Breaks Ground

In breaking with traditional concert norms, the Weis Center hosted its first ever Hip Hop Happening. This panel-performance brought to attention many of the political issues most commonly discussed in hip hop music in the past to lead the performers to speculate on the genre’s future in social action.
