The Weis Center for the Performing Arts has received the 2025 Green Business Award from the Central PA Chamber of Commerce.
The Central PA Chamber of Commerce’s Green Business Recognition Program has been created to showcase the environmental efforts of our businesses and individuals. Through the implementation of this program, the Chamber hopes to encourage green business practices throughout our rural region.
To be considered for recognition, a business must be a member of the Central PA Chamber, doing business in our rural region, and demonstrate green business practices in each of several major areas.
Applicants are given a score based on their “green” efforts. The Weis Center scored high in many of the program’s categories, including: Solid Waste Prevention, Recycling, Purchasing and Energy & Water Conservation. These scores are then combined with an essay section that provides more details about “green” efforts.
Specifically, the Weis Center has installed a new HVAC system, energy efficient lighting and water bottle-filling stations throughout the venue, moved from paper to digital programs for patrons, and engages in sustainable purchasing methods and recycling measures.
Working with the Weis Center, behind-the-scenes, the Central PA Chamber was able to surprise Lisa Leighton, Marketing and Outreach Director, with a custom, hand-made Tree of Life from fellow Chamber member, Thomas Beall-Ellersieck of HandyCrafts, LLC. Each year, Beall-Ellersieck creates a personalized award for the winner. We were also glad to be joined by Alec Engleman of Phoenix Filtration and Plumbing, the sponsor for this year’s Green Business Award.
The Central PA Chamber thanks all members who completed the Green Business Recognition Application. The Chamber staff’s decision is never easy because of the extensive conservation measures being taken by so many applicants.
Green Business is good business! In addition to helping the environment, it can save your business money, and your customers and employees will value your efforts.
